The ludicrous title of this blog is what The Guardian wrote, in a book review,…
Hins Lay Iggs
First full day in another sort of down under. It takes some getting used to. Once you remember that “not even” is not true and “wop wops” are the boonies and “she’ll be right” is another of way of saying OK, you adjust. But how can you tell the difference between bear and beer?
We started out on what turned out to be about a 26,000 step day. Weather hit 28 degrees, but it was the humidity, when away from the ocean, that was a killer. What I call a two-shirt, double underwear day.
First: Up. Auckland is somewhere between San Francisco and Vancouver in hilly-ness. From the harbour up to the Ponsoby and K-Street neighbourhoods, then across the Domain, a sort of Stanley Park if you will, into the upscale Parnell neighbourhood, back down to the central business district and, if that wasn’t enough, a ferry across the harbour to the twee and charming Devenport for a long walk along the waterfront and beaches.

Pics above while wandering Devenport, a “village” suburb across the harbour. Views back to the central business district. It was only 40 years ago you had to make “trunk” calls using an “exchange.” We’ve come a long way baby.
