“I disagree with everything I used to say”

We woke to grey skies and down below could see cars with their wipers on intermittent; but it was short lived.  An hour later the sun was out in full force.  We were saved, however, by zero humidity and a lovely sea breeze from the south.  Yet another gorgeous day.

To start we wandered the downtown for a coffee; being Sunday the choices were slim but we lucked out nonetheless on a bakery with fresh scones and delicious flat whites.  Then we headed down to the harbour where there was a farmer’s market, a “super car” exhibit, craft show, and numerous other street entertainment options getting set-up.

The Amphicar, or amphibious car. As seen on Top Gear!

Stephen wanted to see the Vivienne Westwood jewellery show, but I balked at the price and set off on my own for a walk.

Our hotel is nestled in there somewhere…

Not long after I left SS at the museum he texted me that the show was too good to miss and shouted me a ticket.  It was a few dresses but mainly jewellery, which she designed with her husband, Andreas Kronthaler.

I disagree with everything I used to say is of course a Dame Vivienne quote, who could, you know, be given to whimsy amidst all the agitprop, but also at least honest about being disingenuous. She was also exceptionally clever and the original “radical chic”

The Westwood exhibit included the Museum of New Zealand, part history, part cultural overview, part science (but in that child-engagement style of Toronto’s Science World).

“Hoe” in Maori, meaning steering paddles used on ocean-going trips

Expand the above picture.  The info is a novel way of presenting how totally New Zealand is colonized–not just by people, by by every facet of nature.  It was a scroll, like the airline departure screens, and it was page after page of introduced species.

The nature wing had lots of nature

For dinner we hit an Italian place where we shared gnocchi, meatballs, grilled broccolini and salad.  We also picked up some snack items for the train trip coming up.  Bit of a shocker on grocery prices.

Very, very, very condensed. I guess

Oh, I forgot: SS took a few more videos (at the Te Papa or Museum of New Zealand) which I’m sharing below.  Both are modern art extraordinaire, meaning I have no idea of the meaning.
